Overview

Civetta Therapeutics (located in Cambridge, MA) is developing novel therapeutics targeting beta-propeller domain proteins, a class of highly conserved structural proteins that are implicated in multiple types of cancer, neurodegenerative and metabolic diseases.  Backed by Deerfield Management, Civetta was founded by William Sellers (Broad Institute and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute) and Eric Fischer (Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Harvard Medical School) with the mission to leverage the wide array of biologic functions in which propeller proteins participate to discover impactful new medicines for patients.

The Position

Reporting to the VP of Finance, the Staff Accountant will be a key contributor in building a dynamic accounting and finance organization dedicated to financial integrity and focused on supporting our growth strategy. Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the day-to-day accounting transactions and operations
  • Supports the monthly close process, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Prepares complex analyses, schedules and supporting reconciliations for the following areas: Prepaids, Leases, Project Allocation, Accruals, Other Accrued Liabilities and Fixed Assets.
  • Manage system integrations and monitor all automated transactions posted to QuickBooks for appropriate coding and supporting documents.
  • Assist with the annual budgeting, monitor budget to actual variances, develop/maintain R&D project reporting to support Project Leaders
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues requiring explanations and interpretation
  • Ensure timely and complete delivery of any documentation required to support external and internal audits and reporting
  • Assist in the setup and/ or maintenance of processes, procedures and controls that properly capture, track and report financial results
  • Responsible for all payroll administration, processes and PEO relationship
  • Responsible for the maintenance and administration of the company’s procurement system (Prendio): ensure appropriate creation of purchase orders, 3-way match and AP workflow
  • Responsible for the preparation of annual 1099’s and filing
  • Support for tax related data compilation, R&D tax credit, etc.
  • Responsible for administration of Expensify, including reconciliation of monthly corporate credit card and expense reporting review
  • Assists in the design, development, and maintenance of formalized control procedures for the organization
  • Supports process improvements, ad-hoc projects, implementation of systems and other duties as assigned to help scale with company growth.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent business experience) and 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP.
  • Experience with payroll and benefit accounting desired.
  • Must be capable of operating in a fast-paced environment, able to handle pressure well, be self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects while working with deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential financial information appropriately
  • Proficiency with Excel required
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Expensify and Prendio are a plus
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and quantitative skills
  • Prior experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry; experience in a startup strongly preferred
